SWEDISH NU-BALEARIC BEAT

30 Oct

I’m loving the return of Balearic beat (maybe Nu-Balearic now?) …. analogue drum machines, disco infused percussion beats, dreamy guitars, soft synth pads, gentle echo vocals – in short, “post-rave” bliss.  Whilst the genre was popularised in Ibiza (and surrounding Balearic Islands) during the mid 90s it seems to be the Swedish now leading the charge.

Air France is Henrik Joel from Göteborg, Sweden. Their latest album, No Way Down was recently voted best album of the week at Rough Trade in London – it’s got sort of an Avalanches feel to it.  Released under record labels S I C (UK) and E C (Japan).

Boat Club are a Balearic pop duo from Gothenburg, Sweden that consists of the members Andreas and Magnus.  They are under the label Luxxury.

Fontan are another group from Göteborg Sweden consisting of Johan Melin and Jesper Jarold (who were previously part of Citylights). Released under a record label called Information.
